Ammonites were some of the most notorious ancient sea creatures. They inhabited the seas during the Denovian period (350 million years ago). The plate's surface is hand polished by Moroccan master craftsmen, the background matrix is hand-chiseled and remains somewhat rough for contrast.
The word ammonite is derived from "Ammon", the Greek god, who appeared with rams horns on his head. The hard, multichambered shell is now found fossilized and is treasured around the world for its pre-historical value as well as natural beauty and timeless design.
